Meliá Hotels International, Spain's leading hotel group, is advancing its expansion strategy with a major milestone in Latin America: the signing of an exclusive hotel in Lima, Peru. Operating under The Meliá Collection brand, this property will be the company's first luxury hotel in the Andean country and one of its most iconic projects in the region.
The opening of The Meliá Collection Lima will take place in two phases: the first in July 2026 with 61 rooms, and the second in July 2027, bringing the total to 107 rooms.
Located in the heart of Lima's historic centre —designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site— the hotel will be surrounded by rich cultural and architectural heritage. Just steps from the Plaza de Armas, Lima Cathedral, and the Government Palace, the new The Meliá Collection Lima will offer guests an authentic luxury experience deeply rooted in the city's history and identity. Built on the site known as Casa de la Pila —named after an old fountain topped by the Virgin of the Waters, venerated for centuries and now preserved in the Church of El Sagrario— the location was a gathering place for Lima's intellectuals and home to the Thalia Club between the 17th and 19th centuries. In 1839, it hosted the early days of the newspaper El Comercio, and over time, the site has become steeped in stories and legends. Today, restorer Cirilo Bernui Tafur is leading its full restoration.
This makes it a perfect addition to The Meliá Collection portfolio, which features a curated selection of independently spirited hotels with exceptional cultural heritage and unique stories that enrich every stay. The hotel will also launch its own cultural program, offering guests immersive experiences in Lima's artistic, culinary, and historical richness from a local and authentic perspective. This concept aligns with the essence of The Meliá Collection, a brand that brings together hotels with soul, character, and a strong connection to their surroundings.
As Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, explains: “The signing of The Meliá Collection in Lima is another step in our growth strategy in Latin America, focusing on destinations with strong tourism potential like the Peruvian capital. We're proud to grow alongside local partners who share our vision and are committed to delivering top-tier experiences and quality tourism."
The project has received special support from PROMPERÚ, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism. Daniel Córdova, Director of Business Investment Promotion at PROMPERÚ, adds: “One of our missions is to attract business investments to strategic sectors of our economy, such as tourism. We're delighted to have collaborated with Meliá Hotels International in bringing The Meliá Collection, a brand synonymous with excellence, to Lima's Historic Center, a district with immense potential thanks to its architectural, cultural, and culinary richness, as well as its privileged location near the city's main attractions."
The new hotel, which will be managed by Meliá Hotels International, is owned by the Peruvian company Hoteles Bera, a partnership between two local families: the Bernui-Tarazona and Ramos-Bernui families.
With this addition, Meliá Hotels International strengthens its presence in Peru, where it already operates two hotels in Lima: Meliá Lima, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and INNSiDE Miraflores.
