Meliá Isla Canela, an icon of quality tourism on the coast of Huelva, opens for the summer season completely renovated

Hotels & Brands

Saint Croix Holding Immobilier, owner of the property, and Meliá Hotels International have invested more than 6 Mn€ in the renovation of the spaces and the creation of new attributes for leisure tourism

Conceived as a retreat to connect with the sea and nature, the hotel enjoys an extraordinary location, in the Andalusian coast and next to two renowned golf courses

More than a decade after its inauguration under the Meliá brand, the Meliá Isla Canela hotel reopens its doors ready for what is expected to be an extraordinary season along the Andalusian coast, and especially in the privileged setting of Isla Canela, one of the most popular residential and holiday areas in the country, which is very close to the Portuguese Algarve. The property, which dates back to the year 2000 and was previously renovated in 2013, offers 358 rooms surrounded by cosy interior spaces in a building with a markedly Andalusian style. In addition, the hotel is set in more than 10,000 metres of native gardens, bordering the dune landscape and the immense Atlantic coastline.

With the new refurbishment that has now been completed, the property, the SOCIMI Saint Croix of the Pryconsa Group, and Meliá Hotels International, reaffirm their commitment to responsible and high-quality tourism in the destination and strengthen the leadership of this hotel, a true benchmark in the region. The new approach has aimed to harmonise the exterior and interior design of the hotel, and to enhance its focus on the two key customer segments it targets, families and adult couples, creating unique spaces, attributes and "premium" experiences for them to continue exceeding their expectations.

Thus, on the one hand, families have a real hub of children's leisure, which includes the water playground for children Splash Park and the Mini-Club Kidsdom, as well as a babyclub with exclusive facilities for babies from zero years. All this, without forgetting a variety of options to enjoy with the family vacation such as themed workshops, paddle-surfing sessions on the beach, or movie afternoons. On the other hand, adult couples can enjoy a whole range of wellness and energy activities, with meditation, yoga or Taichi in the mornings and a wellness centre with an indoor swimming pool, massages and body treatments, as well as a complete 24-hour state-of-the-art gym, where you can get in shape with splendid views of the estuary. The offer for adults is completed with a new pool bar with an exclusive pool and music adapted to the time of day and a carefully selected offer of live music in the evenings.

The renovation works have prioritised sustainability, so that one of the key elements of the hotel's renovation has been to achieve the decarbonisation of the hotel by stopping the use of fossil fuels and implementing state-of-the-art technologies and systems to reduce the hotel's carbon footprint. The refurbishment work has included almost all the rooms and the main common areas, such as the lobby, the lounge of the exclusive The Level service, the mini club and baby club, a new Sports Bar, as well as an update of the gastronomic spaces and concepts, to which the new Meliá Isla Canela gives greater protagonism. Among the new culinary offer, the new Italian restaurant Casa Nostra -with the most spectacular views of the resort- and the innovative "all-day-dining" buffet concept of the Meliá brand, called Mosaico, which has been very popular since the opening of the hotel last April, stand out.

In addition to its privileged natural environment shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, the dune system and an endless beach, the hotel is surrounded by excellent spaces and sports facilities ideal for "active" holidays, such as the Isla Canela Marina to enjoy sailing and other water sports or the exceptional beach overlooking the entire establishment, ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing. In furthermore, the two golf courses in the area (the Isla Canela Old Course and the Isla Canela Links), which together with the Marina also belong to the Pryconsa Group, complement this offer and make this hotel particularly interesting for incentive groups, and for an increasingly important segment such as golf along the coast of Huelva and the south of Portugal.

Surrounded by a protected natural environment, the hotel offers trips to discover the nature reserve of the marshlands, the Salinas del Duque and the most picturesque villages in the area, as well as organising hiking routes and bird and dolphin watching days, contributing to the appreciation of the environment and raising the awareness of customers and collaborators, which are essential elements of responsible tourism.
