The Chairman and founder of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, has been named new Honorary Ambassador of Brand Spain in recognition of his pioneering work in the international growth of the Spanish hotel industry, receiving the award in a ceremony led by the King and Queen of Spain and organized by the Forum for Renowned Spanish Brands.
The award aims to publicly acknowledge people who have contributed to the generation and reinforcement of a positive international image for Spain. During his six decades as the senior executive at Meliá Hotels International, Escarrer has helped boost the excellence of the Spanish hotel industry beyond its borders, and the company now operates in more than 40 countries and is recognized as one of the leading hotel companies in destinations such as the Caribbean or Southeast Asia.
In this seventh edition of the awards, other Spanish personalities and organization such as Andrés Iniesta, Juan Ignacio Cirac, Sara Baras, Francisco Martínez Cosentino, the Elcano Royal Institute and Obra Social la Caixa also received awards.
